Compliance and Reporting

Report a concern through the USBE hotline, follow IEA's grievance procedures, and find annual parent notices, including the USBE Parent Portal.

Report Fraud, Waste, Abuse, or Noncompliance

The IEA Governing Board uses the Utah State Board of Education (USBE) hotline so that students, families, employees, and community members can report concerns independently of school administration.

Complaints or concerns can be filed by following the process as outlined here. Hotline complaints go directly to the State Board of Education Internal Audit Department and may be referred back to the LEA.

Grievance & Complaint Procedures

Most concerns are resolved quickly and informally. When they are not, IEA's grievance policies give every parent and employee a clear, fair path to resolution.

  1. 1

    Talk with the person involved

Start with the teacher or staff member closest to the concern. Most issues are resolved at this step.

  2. 2

    Contact the Executive Director

If the concern is not resolved, bring it to the Executive Director, who will review it and respond.

  3. 3

    Submit a formal grievance

If it remains unresolved, file a written grievance with the Governing Board as outlined in the applicable policy.

Bullying, Harassment & Discrimination

Every student deserves to learn in a safe, respectful environment. Report bullying, cyber-bullying, hazing, harassment, or discrimination to any IEA staff member or through the report form below. Reports are taken seriously and investigated promptly.

No retaliation

IEA prohibits retaliation against anyone who reports a concern in good faith or takes part in an investigation. Retaliation is itself a violation of IEA policy.

USBE Parent Portal

The Utah State Board of Education (USBE) maintains a Parent Portal for all Utah families. It outlines the basic structure of Utah's public education system, describes the rights of parents in directing their children's education, and shares opportunities to engage with and support schools at the state and local level. The portal is available in multiple languages, and USBE offers verbal translation services.

The USBE Parent Portal is a state resource, separate from IEA's Parent Portal. Questions? Contact the IEA office at (801) 901-8520 or USBE's Parent Liaison at (801) 538-7845.
