What is Virtual Elementary School?

The Ignite Virtual Program (IV) is a program offered by Ignite Entrepreneurship Academy.  IV is available for Utah students in grades K-6.  Students will have the freedom to learn and complete their Math and Literacy lessons and follow-up assignments in a 24/7, anywhere, and at any time model through real-time and online instruction. The IV program also embraces a hybrid approach to learning where students will meet with their Virtual Teacher and class on-site (at school) up to 2 days a week for project-based, tech-free, hands-on learning, field trips, visits from outreach programs, and specialty classes such as Physical Education (PE) and Innovations. The Ignite Virtual program will immerse students in a highly intuitive virtual classroom designed to challenge and support their academic advancement, and promote rigor, strong stamina, resiliency, independence, and innovation.

VIRTUAL LEARNING IN UTAH

Students will be provided a Chromebook, Headset, virtual Teacher, and class. In real-time students will receive instruction in Math and Literacy via Google Meets.  Students will be provided with curriculum-rich lessons delivered by a highly qualified teacher. Teachers will meet with students for real-time virtual classes twice a week as indicated on the daily schedule. The teacher will record all real-time live class meetings and post them on Canvas that same day.  In addition to real-time live classes, students will have the opportunity to be self-directed by learning from pre-recorded lessons made by their teacher.  Independently students will complete follow-up assignments to practice their new skills. Teachers will use student work as a measurement of their proficiency in Math and Literacy.

PERSONALIZED DIGITAL LEARNING

Personalized learning is provided through Math and Literacy digital program.  Digital learning uses new technologies and methods to help students learn in a different way.  This new form of education has been rapidly replacing the more traditional form of “face-to-face” lessons.  The incorporation of personalized digital learning involves the use of intuitive programs.  These digital programs pre-assess students’ knowledge in Math and Literacy.  The data collected is invaluable to the teacher as it guides the instruction the student receives thereby making both the digital programs and the face-to-face learning is a personalized experience.  With the data collected, the digital program creates a personalized path for each student.  This personalized path fills in academic gaps and allows the students to progress at their own pace.  Along their path, students will participate in “knowledge checks” which will again provide the teacher data confirming growth over time or the need to reteach.

ON-SITE LEARNING

Project-based Learning (PBL) Social Studies or Science Site Day:   PBL  is a teaching method that drives student learning by engaging them in real-world, meaningful projects. It’s a style of inquiry-based and student-centered learning. In PBL, students work in groups over a set period on a project designed to solve a genuine problem or answer a challenging question. Students demonstrate their knowledge and skills by creating a product or presentation.  Project-based learning activities allow students to develop deep content knowledge. Importantly, PBL also supports the development of 21 st century skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, and communication.  The site days are held on Tuesday’s and run from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Flex Friday: On Friday (“Flex Friday”) we offer students the option to participate in field trips, visiting outreach programs, and Specialties – Physical Education and Innovations. Friday hours are from 12:00 -12:30.  Students are visual learners, and outreach programs and field trips let students touch, feel, and listen to what they’re learning about, which helps them build on classroom instruction, gain a better understanding of topics, build cultural understanding and tolerance, and expose them to worlds outside their own.  Flex Friday is strongly encouraged. Students will have the opportunity to attend one field trip a month.   Outreach Programs such as visiting museums and professional performances will visit Ignite Virtual students once a month on a Friday. Physical education provides cognitive content and instruction designed to develop motor skills, knowledge, and behaviors for physical activity and physical fitness. Physical education (PE) is offered twice a month providing students with the ability and confidence to be physically active for a lifetime.   Innovations is offered twice a month providing students the opportunity to learn to code, become digitally literate, practice keyboarding, learn lessons in Library, borrow books, and more!  Innovations is a class that supports IEA’s entrepreneurial Mission and Vision.   PE and Innovations are offered on the same day (Friday) twice a month.

Above all else, we love kids. Their individuality, their abilities, their passions. Children are amazing people and we consider ourselves lucky to work with them every day.
